Fishing is another popular pastime on Carson Lake. In addition to smallmouth bass, the lake is a renowned lake trout destination and also holds some whitefish. Lakers are often caught through the ice in winter, but can also create a dynamic fishery in the spring and fall.
The season runs from January 1st until the end of September and there are slot size restrictions (all lake trout between 40 and 55 cm (15.5-21.5 inches must be released). The bass season opens the 4th Saturday in June and runs through to the end of November. They can be quite active throughout the summer and are typically caught across from the resort along the drop-off areas, although they can even be caught off of our docks from time to time.
Early September is another prime time to try for the hard fighting lake trout. Since there is no public boat launch onto the lake, motorboat rentals are available for those that pre-book.
Barry's Bay Cottage Resort offers motor boat rentals for anglers or those who like to cruise around the lake. Delivered right to your dock, they come with extra gas, life jackets and safety kits in 12 foot lengths with 4 hp engines.
A Pleasure Craft Operators Card is needed to rent a boat. Please note that all boat rentals must be made by a person with a valid Ontario Boating License or Pleasure Craft Operators Card. You can get your boating license online through the Ontario government website and its affiliates. The boat renter must carry their boat license with them at all times when operating a boat.
Please note that a $500 damage deposit is required for all boat rentals.

Barry’s Bay Cottages has portable ice shelters that can be moved around the lake in search of the Lake Trout, Pickerel, and Whitefish in Carson Lake. Rentals include ice augers. Our ice fishing huts are 6' x 6' and can fit 2-4 people. Please note that our ice fishing huts do not come with chairs or heating.
We have limited quantities of huts at our resort so please pre-book to secure your ice fishing hut. Please see the Carson Lake depth map to determine the best spots for you and your ice fishing style! Any location on the lake is great to ice fish.

Onsite, we have a nature trail that is perfect for walking (and walking your dog guests!) to get some peace and reconnect with nature. We recommend an early morning walk through the quiet trees.
Trail enthusiasts need not stay home during the winter. You can now explore our winter wonderland with lightweight aluminum shaft bear paw snowshoes. They are easy and affordable to use and give you the ability to explore our area trails year round.
